"Our diagnosis and treatment programs are specially-designed to return the female athlete to full activity after these or other injuries and illnesses."

The Women's Sports Medicine Center at Orthopaedic Associates offers a comprehensive treatment approach to the female athlete. The Women's Sports Medicine Center's team of specially-trained healthcare professionals focuses on the treatment, training, and nutritional demands unique to the female athlete.

The Center is headed by Dr. Teri Metcalf McCambridge, a primary care sports medicine specialist who completed her training at Johns Hopkins and has a fellowship in adolescent and sports medicine from the University of Wisconsin. She is an avid runner and former gymnast. Dr. McCambridge is team physician for Loyola College and several high schools in the Baltimore area. She will be joined by Karen Wilberg, a physical therapist, certified athletic trainer, and certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) and Rachel Colby, a certified athletic trainer and certified strength and conditioning specialist. In addition, The Women's Sports Medicine Center will also be staffed by the experienced physical therapists, athletic trainers and certified strength and conditioning specialists at Orthopaedic Associates' Towson Sports Medicine Center.

The Women's Sports Medicine Center referral sources include nutritionists, internists, gynecologists, rheumatologists, psychologists, exercise physiologists and personal trainers.


The Women's Sports Medicine Center will feature medical treatment and programs for:

Sports injuries:

  • Shin splints
  • Stress fractures
  • Knee pain
  • Tendonitis (golfer's elbow, Achilles, tennis elbow, rotator cuff, etc.)
  • Dislocations (patella, shoulder, finger)
  • Ankle sprains
  • Back pain

Nutritional counseling for the highly competitive or recreational athlete

Psychiatric counseling

Disease prevention:

  • Osteoporosis and obesity
  • Menstrual dysfunction related to exercise (female athlete triad)
