The Ruxton SurgiCenter is a state-of-the-art, out-patient surgical facility specializing in orthopaedics. Our environment is specially designed to offer a cheerful, comfortable setting that is efficient, convenient and relaxing.

Before Your Surgery
- Someone from our nursing staff will call you to review pre-op instructions and to answer any questions you may have.
- Make transportation arrangements for someone to bring you to your surgery and take you home.
- For women, if there is the possibility that you are pregnant, please notify your surgeon.
- It is important to have any pre-admission testing done at least 4-7 days prior to surgery so that the results reach Ruxton SurgiCenter at least 72 hours before surgery.
- If you are taking medication for diabetes, high blood pressure or diet pills, please call the Center for special instructions.
- DO NOT EAT ANYTHING AFTER MIDNIGHT, prior to your surgery.
- If you smoke, DO NOT SMOKE AFTER MIDNIGHT, prior to your surgery.
The Day of Surgery
- It is important that you arrive at Ruxton SurgiCenter at your schecduled time to allow for adequate time for admission procedures.
- Bathe or shower the morning of the surgery to minimize the chance of infection.
- Women should not wear make-up or nail polish.
- Male patients should shave in their normal fashion in the morning.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing and low-heeled shoes. Sweat pants or shorts are recommended for knee or foot surgery.
- Bring your insurance cards with you as well as referrals and any medical information requested.
- PLEASE LEAVE VALUABLES, JEWELRY, WALLETS AND PURSES AT HOME.
Recovery Period
After your surgery, you will be moved to our fully equipped recovery room, where you will be monitored by nurses and anesthesia staff until fully awake. You will then be transferred to Discharge Recovery where your family can join you.
At Home
The nurses in the recovery room will explain your doctor's post-operative instuctions regarding rest, diet and any medications. If you have any problems, call your surgeon or his answering service. Plan to have someone stay with you for a day.
Disclosure
Your physician may own direct interest in Ruxton SurgiCenter. Although Ruxton SurgiCenter is an appropriate site for any procedure, there are many other facilities where your procedure may be performed. If your doctor recommends that your procedure be performed at our facility and you prefer to have it done elsewhere, please make your doctor aware of this.
